You should know that Derek McLane’s low, multipurpose and deliberately drab set is topped by a glorious canvas of the night sky around Central Park, as the ceiling of the Hayden Planetarium was. (Jason Lyons is the lighting director.) This juxtaposition of the mundane and the infinite, like Mr. Lonergan’s play, brings to mind what Flaubert said about the heartbreaking limits of words: “Human speech is like a cracked kettle on which we tap crude rhythms for bears to dance to, while longing to make music that will melt the stars.”
Ben Brantley, The New York Times
